About

Hola!

My name is Maria, and I am the author of The Ginger Spoon. I’m a happily married mum of three girls. My husband and I originally left Chile for what was meant to be a two-year adventure abroad — and here we are, 16 years later!

Our first stop as students was New York, followed by London, then back to New York, and finally we settled in the UK. Since then, the British capital has become our home — and the home of this blog.

I grew up on a farm in the south of Chile, where winters are long and rainy. Cooking was always a source of entertainment and my family’s favourite topic of conversation (many primos and tías!). Now, with my own family, the tradition lives on.

Formerly a professional graphic designer, I retrained as a pastry chef in New York (ICE) and later taught cooking for fun. I studied food photography at Leiths Academy and am also a keen food stylist.

Positive psychology has always fascinated me, which led me to certify in Happiness Studies and train as a happiness coach.

After completing my certification, I was glad to have confirmed something I’d always felt growing up in Chile, surrounded by my big family: making time to connect with friends and loved ones is the most essential ingredient for happiness. There’s no better recipe.

Thank you for stopping by The Ginger Spoon.
